Ancient Word
What is the last thing God said to you? Possibly, you heard Him speak clearly to you just this morning. Or, maybe it’s been some time since His Word spoke directly to your heart, specifically to you regarding your situation. I trust you know the sound of His voice, the power of His Word, the leading of His Spirit.
The Word of God is given to all. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” (John 1: 1-5 NKJV) This light is the wisdom of God, the Son of God, freely given.
Since Jesus is now seated at the right hand of His Father in heaven, we rely on His Spirit to make Him known to us. It is the Spirit of God who makes the things of God known to our hearts. It is the Spirit of God who reveals wisdom to us. I have heard Him in the still small voice within. I have had my heart quickened anew while reading a familiar passage of Scripture. I have heard Him in the voice of a friend. I have even heard Him in the voice of a stranger. I have found that He is quite capable of making Himself known.
I have also endured seasons when my ears were dull and heaven seemed far away, and I have experienced the temptation to become prayer-less. I implore you, dear one, do not give way to such doubt. “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.” (Jude 20-21 NASB)
Keep faith alive. Believe that He speaks. “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;” (Hebrews 1:1-2 NKJV) Jesus is God’s Word, “the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person.” (Hebrews 1:3 NKJV)
Delight in the law of the Lord and meditate on it day and night (Psalm 1:2). Believe that His Word is for you and that His ways are revealed there. Take some time this week to read Proverbs 8. This personification of wisdom in the ancient text may awaken desire in you to pursue the Word made flesh.
Until next week, beloved, ponder anew what the Almighty can do.
