Behold His Glory

For the first time in three and half years, I am a day late posting here. Yesterday was Christmas Day, and our house was full of joy and people until well after sunset. My husband and I sat in front of the fire last night in the glorious afterglow of sweet fellowship with family and dear friends, and I was not inclined to interrupt that moment by hopping on the old laptop. I implore that you, my friends, will allow me that moment of respite.

We have come to the end of Advent remembering the humble birth of Christ, our Savior. That night when the angels sang, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14 NKJV) I am always, every year, pierced with the reality of God’s heart toward His creation. His kind intention toward a lost and desperately desolate people who, above all else, need Him. He alone is our hope and consolation. And so He came.

In this week, as we approach the new year, I am grateful for a few moments to pause and reflect on the previous months and recalibrate before moving forward into the things He has prepared for us. He has done great things for us and strengthened our faith in His sovereign goodness. He has given us perspective, clarified our vision, and infused us with the courage to be kind.

I appreciate this calm that comes on the heels of labor. This moment to give Him glory for what He has accomplished in us and through us. When we fail, He fails not. When we slumber, He neither slumbers nor sleeps. Though we are weak, yet He is strong. Indeed, it is the zeal of the Lord that accomplishes His purposes and the desire of His will.

Are we ready to answer His call? Are we prepared to be useful in His hand? Can we commit to the things He has for us to do? May it ever be so, and may our faith be stirred to respond to His beauty and holiness. Let us pray as Mary did, “Be it unto me according to Your word.”

With God all things are possible. So let us receive Him. Lord, Jesus Christ, be born in us today.

Until next week, beloved, behold the child, born on Christmas Day.
