Week Nine

Well, my friends, welcome to the final post in this Bible reading series. Our Scripture journey has been through some of Paul’s letters, some of John’s gospel and letters, and we stopped for a brief look into the book of Hebrews. The way has been rich and challenging. By “rich,” I mean deeply and personally valuable, full of life-giving and life-sustaining deposits. By “challenging,” I mean provocative instruction that strengthens and motivates forward motion. For, as it says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” (NASB)

We are children of light, responding to an upward call. We are climbing a path that leads to higher plains. We are running a race that requires endurance and strength. We are a community of witnesses who get to see the Master at work and look for His glorious appearing. And, dear friends, this high adventure is filled with the wonder of knowing Him, the pure joy of being in fellowship through the mystery and power of the Holy Spirit.

I trust and believe that God has been at work as we’ve travelled together and that you (if you have participated) have found Him whom you have pursued during these weeks. It has been an honor to serve you and to walk with you, and I am eager to see some of you at our gathering on Saturday (see Week Seven post for details) . If you have participated but will not be able to join us on Saturday, please make some time to get with your accountability partner(s) to fellowship around the Lord’s table and pray. Be inclined to speak to one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.

Week Nine Daily Reading: Psalm 1, 31, 61, 91, 121.

Journaling Prompts: Review your journal entries from the last eight weeks and ponder God’s way with you. As you read a psalm each day, focus on the verbs (the action words) and notice if the action is God’s, man’s, or the enemy’s. Then try writing the psalm in your own words. Journal any thoughts or prayers that the Lord gives you regarding your relationship with Him and His love and care for you.

“I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.” Jeremiah 31:3 (NASB)
